Thanks Bengt, I should've seen that checkbox in the IrScrutinizer window... I now have a conf file, it recognized two remotes, one using NEC, the other NEC-f16 (No relationship between 3rd and 4th bytes), which i think is incorrect. Anyway, I have a decent conf file and can play with it from now on. irw also shows received decoded signals, not all buttons work, while at the same time lirc.log shows girs_rceive so I will need to fiddle with the remote definition. Once I get the whole LIRC thing to run smoothly (e.g. Arch is quite picky when it comes to /var/lock) I will post the remote config to http://lirc-remotes.sourceforge.net/remotes-table.html and reply to this thread, for completeness sake.
