CAN event handling

Hi I want to write a program for TINI 390 to communicate on CAN bus. I will designate different message centres for different message IDs for automatic sorting of recieved messages. The program will be written in Java. I want each message reception to generate an event so that it is read immediately. How can I do that? Should I use threads, and if yes, should each message centre generate its own threads (multitasking). How to do that? Can anybody guide me in this respect.
