weird behavior of Ping.pingNode()

Sometimes I can ping a host using slush command, but
can't get it using Ping.pingNode().
in my program,
Ping.pingNode(InetAddress.getByName("192.168.253.100"))
would return false while I can successfull get respond
from the host under slush command "ping
192.168.253.100".
However, sometimes it works! Out of any reason I can
probably think of, which got me really frustrated.
Could anybody know or come up with an explanation?
