Hi, Bill.

I would check that your power supply is giving clean power, and can 
source at least 500mA or so.  300mA would probably be sufficient, but 
more will give you some breathing room.

As for the OS, I recommend to always use the latest, either 1.02g (for 
the 1.0 class) or 1.12 (for the 1.1 class).  Also, how much RAM does 
your board have?
