I am glad to hear that you got it working.  As I recall, the TA 
response time varies widely, and even 16 wait states (the most we 
could use) wasn't always enough.  If things are inconsistent, you 
might want to put a scope on TA and make sure that it always asserts 
before your wait states expire.

Even if you do connect the TA, you may be able to leave the wait 
state bus cycle termination enabled.  Whichever occurs first will 
terminate the bus cycle.  In our case, even with the max wait state 
setting, the LCD chip sometimes needed even more time than provided 
and the wait state logic would terminate the bus cycle too early, so 
we had to switch to using only TA.
