Hi Chris As to an RTOS like uCOS, it will be a major added complexity, unless you're already very familiar with RTOSes. It sounds more like you're learning your way around microcontroller peripherals. For clarification: WHY would connect a serial TX line to a TPU? Even more, why connect an RX line? Are you practicing RS-232 bit-banging for the pure joy of it, or just to learn how to use the TPU? Homework assignment? You might find such code for a severely resource-limited 8-bit chip, where someone was _forced_ to do this because they needed minimal RS-232 functionality, had no UART/SCI/RS-232 peripheral, and could not afford an external UART. The MPC565 has 4 SCI UARTS, I assume the 555 has one or two. Much easier to RX and TX serial data using a peripheral that does that for a living! I've occasionally wondered if I could make a QSPI peripheral behave mostly RS-232-ish, when I ran out of real serial ports and had a left-over SPI port. However, I was never desperate enough to spend a week or four on it! Good luck! I have picked up a fun side project working with the MPC555 processor to help me to learn more about what it is to actually do some development. I have successfully been able to send and receive data using intterupts through the QADC. I also have even been able to use the TPU in a most basic form in order to make a servo that requires a constant pulse to move to a designated location. The problem I now face has to do with the TPU in a more advanced way(but still probably relatively basic). I still only sorta understand how the TPU works so I have a whole bunch of questions and I would really appreciate any advice or help. I have connected a serial TX line to TPU B channel 0 and a serial RX line to TPU B channel 1. The other board that I am trying to interface with sends out normal RS232 data. Here is a list of my questions. 1: Is it even possible to use the TPU in order to read RS232 data being sent through those 2 channels? 2: I have read about the built in libraries that the TPU Function Library is distributed with the develpoment kit but none of them seems to work in a way that would be usefull... I took note of the Read/Writed Timers and Pin (RWTPIN) as being the most likely but that even seemed wrong. If it is possible will one of those work or will I need to write my own tpu code? 3: Does anybody know if there are any built open source or freeware libraries that allow for easy reading of RS232 data by the MPC555 processor through a TPU? 4: I have read about OS's for microcontrollers such as the MPC555, such as uOS/II. Would something like this make it easier for me to do basic developement? I have spent a long time trying to figure this out and haven't gotten anywhere very quickly. I know I am asking a lot of questions and I have a lot more but I am new to this and would really appreciat some experienced input.
