If you want to start writing your application instantly and/or skip
process of writing drivers, booting code, etc. you may consider using
some RTOS. Both open source and comemercial RTOSes have been ported to
MPC500 such as:
eCos http://ecos.sourceware.org - Open Source RTOS that comes with
GNU tools
OS-9 http://www.microware.com - Proprietary RTOS
