As well as the other mails that have indicated how to set up clock and can frequency, you should set the can as tx, disconnect it from the bus and transmit a frame. That way the data stream will run forever (no Ack) and you can use a scope to see the bit width. Of course, there is more to running CAN at 1Mbps than just getting a 1us bit time. You have to set prop, pseg1, pseg2 correctly to match your transceiver delays and bus length. I am required to use the MPC566 at 56 Mhz but I can't seem to find a proper PRESDIV/PROPSEG/PSEG1/PSEG2 parameter configuration that works. I always end up having Bit Errors in the ESTAT register. The transceiver connected to the TouCAN is a Philips PCA82C250. I am using the MPC566EVB board to test my CAN driver (TouCAN B).
