As a member of core team of Gnomemeeting, a VoIP and VideoConference
Project under Linux, i can talk a bit about webcam, as it is the most
often question we have on our own mailing-list.
What i can say about that is, the webcams using the philips chipset are
of very good image quality, (like Philips ToUCam Pro, Logitech Quickcam
*Pro* 3000 and 4000, that's what come of the top of my head) ; they use
the pwc module driver, adn need the pwcx binary-only module driver for
some resolution and compression, but that works very well.
You have to avoid Quickcam Express webcam as the driver is, hmmmm how to
stay politicaly correct?, of far more less good quality, at least that's
what we constated with GnomeMeeting which intensively use video :)
Some of our users are reporting some success in using some Polycom
products too....i could just invite you to browse our own mailing-list
about that....
