I know that Windows XP formats wih 2-7 extra reserved sectors for FAT12/16
althought I'm not sure if this is an issue with FAT32. Previous versions of
Windows (e.g. 2000, etc.) only used one reserved sector. We have had problems
with FAT16 CF cards formatted with XP in non-Windows devices. To work around
this problem use the freeware program "mkdosfs" that is available at
http://www.mager.org/mkdosfs/

To format your CompactFLASH card use the command:

C:\> mkdosfs e:

substituting e: for the actual drive letter of your flash drive.

Not sure if this will help or not...
