Confusion

First of all I am a newbie to Linux and C++ Programming. So please be patient
with me. In my home there are touchscreen controller in all of the major rooms
built into the walls. They are really windows 95 PC's. I fully control an
Audiotron through them and want to control the HD1K in a similar manner using
Telnet. To understand what I have to do and test things out I built a VB app
that runs on a PC and acts as a sophisticated telnet program. Below is a text
display of a session on the program, mush of which is confusing me. Lines
beginning with --> are what I sent to the HDK1000; all other lines are
responses. Things in {ALLCAPS} are comments questions and did not appear as
telnet output. Please help me by explaining what is going on

        (THE PROGRAM NOW BEGINS SUBMITTING COMMANDS TO THE BASH PROMPT)
--> cd /usr/local/bin
cd /usr/local/bin (THIS IS AN ECHO OF THE INPUT FROM THE HD1K)
--> mp3player -p "" &
mp3player -p  &
[1] 7185                         (WHAT IS THIS LINE?}
--> echo Background Music Started
echo Background Music Started
Background Music Started
--> sleep 2
sleep 2
(FROM HERE FORWARD IT LOOKS LIKE SOME SORT OF DEBUG DUMP; WHY AND HOW DO I GET
RID OF IT - I.E. WHAT IS CAUSING IT)
