When I asked them (ximeta) why they did use ip address so they could be
address directly, they replied.  "The NetDisk does not use IP addresses
primarily for two reasons. One being speed. The NetDisk is able to have
much higher transfers and access speeds through our proprietary protocol
rather than IP.  Second is Security."  
 
So I guess until a driver is developed we'll never know.
