I see, so that would limit me to a speed of 250 MB/s based on the wikipedia article about PCI Express. So if I add an addition SFP 1 Gbit/s NIC card I would still be fine as in theory a 1 Gbit/s card would consume maximum 125 MB/s of bandwidth. Am I correct here?

The specification is version 1.0a. Normally, cards with higher standard are working in those slots, but are limited to the speed and throughput of 1.0a.
