You mean a S/PDIF mod that allows a connection via coax instead of
Toslink, I presume.

Not only is this possible, it's been designed and done a number of times
-- Most recently by a colleague I met via this list a couple of years
ago.

If folks are interested, I could almost certainly dig up the schematics
with some effort.  IIRC, it required a bit of soldering, a new hole in
the case, and not much else.
