Why all the whining, people? I'm getting tired of reading it. It makes that discussion of how to configure networking a while back positively scintillating in comparison. Show these folks some respect. They engineered a good product that we all love(d). They created a vibrant community around that product, and were very responsive to customer feedback -- actively maintaining and upgrading the product -- while that product was in active development. This goes above and beyond their minimum required duty to the community. >=20 > 1. Why wont TB share the code with the public if there is no=20 > further development? Turn it into a legacy and open source=20 > project (there could even be money to be made in licensening) >=20 Because they don't WANT to, obviously or they would have freakin'DONE it, right? It's THEIR code, they can do whatever they want with it. WHY don't they want to make it public? For any one of a million and a half possible reasons, including maybe they just don't FEEL like it. I know some people are members of the open software religion, but just like any religion, we're not all members and many of us really don't share those specific religious beliefs. > 2. Why keep this list running if the AT no longer exists? =20 Cuz they WANT to. Full stop. > ... > And to respond to ronstang's email... Just because they=20 > "run" it doesnt mean their rules should be arbitrary. =20 > The rules SHOULD be whatever Voyetra want them to be. IT'S THEIR LIST. They own it. They run it. They can do whatever they want with it -- including continue to run it, shut it down, or establish entirely arbitrary rules for how it's to be used. They don't have to justify their rules, explain them to your liking, or otherwise conform to what random people think they "should" do. The list DOES NOT belong to the community, it belongs to Voyetra. Peter
