CFP ASSETS in-person Workshop: Co-creating a Trauma-Informed Accessibility Research Practice

Dear colleagues,

Submissions are open for "Co-creating a Trauma-Informed Accessibility Resea=
rch Practice", a half-day workshop at ACM ASSETS 2026 in Porto, Portugal (2=
5-28 October 2026).

Given the strong, bidirectional association between disability and psycholo=
gical trauma, the need for shared trauma-informed practices is especially a=
cute in accessibility research. This workshop convenes ASSETS community mem=
bers interested in research practices that safeguard both researcher and pa=
rticipant well-being, and works towards guidelines for conducting trauma-in=
formed research.

WE INVITE

Researchers, practitioners, designers, and community members working at the=
 intersections of accessibility, computing, physical and mental health, dis=
ability and social justice, and related fields =97 particularly those with =
experience of research with trauma-affected communities, of methodological =
or ethical challenges in that work, or of being a research participant in s=
uch studies.

SUBMISSIONS

* Position paper (up to 4 pages, ACM format, excluding references)
* Multimodal short story on the lived experience of trauma in research, wit=
h a brief reflexive statement
* Visual or creative submission (poster, diagram, illustrated narrative) wi=
th a 1-page description

All submissions should comply with the SIGACCESS accessibility guidelines; =
we will work with authors to ensure accessibility before distribution. At l=
east one author must attend in person and be registered for ASSETS 2026. Pl=
aces are limited to 15 participants.

We particularly encourage early-career researchers, practitioners, and comm=
unity members to submit alongside established academics, and welcome partic=
ipation from the Global South and from groups historically underrepresented=
 in computing.

Notification: 24 August 2026
Workshop: 25 October 2026 (provisional)

The workshop is designed to reduce the risk of re-traumatisation, with grou=
nding exercises, a collaboratively developed code of conduct, quiet-room ac=
cess, and an Emergency and Mental Health First Aider available throughout t=
he conference.
