--- SCOPE ---

Most robotics literature quietly assumes three free resources: unlimited
bandwidth, a cloud that never disconnects, and a GPU somewhere nearby. Real
fields do not cooperate. This volume collects the answers that get a machine
working when the channel is a wire, the computer is a microcontroller, the
battery decides how long the work can continue, and the operator cannot see
the state of the link.

Four sections, organised by architectural layer:

  I.   Constrained-medium communication
  II.  Standalone lightweight AI
  III. Cooperation under communication constraints
  IV.  Trust and the human connection

--- OF PARTICULAR INTEREST TO THIS LIST (Section IV) ---

  - Explainable AI with functioning feedback loops, rather than dashboards
    nobody reads
  - Recording and retention sufficient to reconstruct a decision after the
    fact, under storage, power, and link budgets that forbid recording
    everything
  - Non-invasive measurement of operator load and fatigue, where the
    measurement feeds back into supervision
  - The legibility of a system's internal state to an investigator, a
    repairer, or a successor
  - Interfaces for operators who are wearing gloves, standing in the rain,
    and have thirty seconds
  - Teleoperation under delay and bandwidth limits, including force and
    haptic feedback where the channel constrains stability
  - Verification and validation of autonomous field systems, and the limits
    of each individual method

--- CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE ---

These are conditions rather than preferences.

  1. Every chapter must state a minimum configuration that a third party can
     reproduce, and give an honest account of the conditions under which the
     approach breaks down.
  2. Every chapter must include experimental validation, or at minimum
     rigorous simulation-based validation.
  3. Fabricated references and ungrounded "frameworks" are desk-rejected.

Review chapters are welcome as a distinct category, provided they state
which
claims in the surveyed literature are experimentally verified and which are
not. Chapters whose principal contribution is a well-measured NEGATIVE
RESULT
are welcome in their own right.

Out of scope: work assuming a stable broadband link, cloud offloading with
no
fallback path, or datacenter-class accelerators; surveys of surveys;
application reports in which the constraint is incidental rather than the
subject.

  11 October 2026     Notification of acceptance
  10 January 2027     Full chapters due (10,000-15,000 words)
  2027                Publication
