I have a question. A local integrated marketing firm has done very well in the LA market. Now, it's time for a change. I'm making the case with the founder (pro bono) to expand the company's range, developing capabilities for design-thinking, experience design, and related research capabilities. The founder's a smart man. He's open to change if it provides greater satisfaction for his team -- and accompanying revenues. IMC and advertising firms rely on a 15% commission on ad sales for most of their revenues. They're not a reliable guide for making the nut with these more esoteric practices. So here's my felony request: how do practitioners bill for these next-gen services? On retainer? By hour? By job? Revenue sharing? And what are reasonable fees? At SRI Consulting, where I worked in the last millennium, we typically billed $350-$700/hour for consulting services. How much do firms like Jump and IDEO, and boutique practices like ethnographic consultancies, charge? What¹s the range? You can reply in private. Also, free to keep the source of your information confidential. I don¹t need to know who¹s actually charging what: I just need to make a compelling case for change. Thanks.
