I like "human-centered design," as it allows us other flights of fancy. For instance, the National Zoo has designed this incredible system of high-tension cables and platforms to allow the orangutans to commute from their main living area to the research center they work in each day. It is a groundbreaking example of orangutan-centered design. We can establish sub-fields, and new AIGA mailing lists, for robot-centered design, cat-centered design, reality-TV-contestant-centered design; all devoted to these species' differing cognitive systems, and advancing corresponding best practices and research. It's a brave new world to have such career opportunities in it!
