I've been wondering about "presenting the single solution" more and more.

I admit to being a wimp and giving my clients choices, but as I go on I see
them picking the weaker choices (not all the time). Rand would work through
a problem then present THE solution. Of course his clients knew he was a
design God, so he could do this. But I know that he had to start somewhere,
as one isn't born a design god.

When I was in school I had a few teachers (Henery Wolf and Walter Allner)
who were also one solution guys. I think part of this was that they started
from an editorial design background where that is the norm, there they
found fame and thus became design gods. Professionals from an agency background
tended to present multiple ideas.

Of course the risk of presenting one idea is that it may not be accepted. But
I think it leads to better results in the end.

I run my own firm and present multiple concepts - which also justifies billing,
but I'm wondering if I should go the other way (and perhaps how to do that).

If you look at the number of different things that he did for IBM my
answer would be yes. For one shot logo clients no...
