I get the Linux distro numbers mixed up sometimes and it is painful
trying to find clean results for Google searches like "CentOS 4.4
Firefox 3". However, IIRC CentOS/RHEL 4.4 did special custom work to
support running Firefox 3 on that version of the OS. I don't know
exactly what work they did for their Firefox 3 build, but Komodo 5
(built with the same dependencies as Firefox 3) does not run on
CentOS/RHEL 4.4.

Komodo 5 Linux builds are built on CentOS 5.0 (as is Firefox 3 and
Thunderbird 3). Mozilla's own builds of Firefox 3 do not run on CentOS
4.4, AFAIK.
