Defining basic vocabulary of FC

Well, as for terminology, I think that some good reference 
sources could be general treatises on semantic indexing... 
The best one in the field of library and information sciences 
is probably A. C. Foskett's "The subject approach to information"
5th edition (recently translated in Italian under the title
"Il soggetto", Milano, Editrice Bibliografica). In such 
sources one can find definitions of specialized terms, 
such as:

-- precision, recall, futility point, ...
-- conceptual analysis of a document, coextensivity,
literary warrant, ...
-- precoordination, postcoordination, citation order, 
chain procedure, ...
-- isolate, facet, focus, array, round, role, class, ...
-- classification: enumerative, hierarchical, faceted,
analytico-synthetic, by integrative levels, ...
-- notation: alphabetical, numerical, mixed, hospital, 
expressive, retroactive, ...

Although information technology obviously offers
sophisticated tools and specific needs, I believe that
the basic techniques of content analysis and representation
are equally useful and appliable to both paper documents 
and digital information. OTOH, such idea is not that new: 
it was expressed by Brian Vickery in his book on 
faceted classificaton more than 30 years ago!...
