Thanks for your response. I think I may have complicated things by
using the word "browse" (although I'll admit to being easily
confused..;)
Again, my gut feeling is that might be more of a display issue than
a backend issue (I'm hoping so), but we're not looking to "show me
which group of products fall into this or that category" - be it a
price range or product type. This seems more of an organization or
navigation solution.
We have a visualization issue to solve - we're dealing with highly
configurable product lines where the differences between the lines
is fuzzier, often mostly aesthetic. Like trying to buy peanut
butter at the grocery store, the sheer amount of choices/options
available has become a barrier.
We want to show one "product" in a typical configuration, along with
a set of properties that have ranges, and indicate where this
product fits on each of those scales. Adjusting the scales may add
features or options to the currently viewed product, or if the right
combination of values is selected on the scales the product shown
might change to similiar typical configuration but in a different
product line altogether.
