The honest truth: there are no plans for a next version of XFML. I
haven't seen a need for it, not do I have time to work on it. If someone
has a vision and wants to create and promote XFML2.0 (or call it
anything else), that's great.

That is very true. However, I don't think we currently know enough -
that's where the splinter extensions come in. Once we learn enough, it
would be feasible to build XFML2.0. Although I suspect that by then
we'll want to express what we learn in XTM or something...

:) So yes, the extensions are in a way experiments to allow people to
play around with different ideas. The basic XFML is based on age-old
ideas. I think it's useful to encode new ideas as extensions to allow
software builders to build tools and people to experiment. But indeed,
at some point we'll have to evolve beyond just extensions.
