--> "Faceted classification discussion" "[Browsing knowledge classification / Aida Slavic : Jan 8] An example of a knowledge classification for humanities (prototype) available at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/fatks/database.htm " Aida, that's impressive! (I'm sorry if I am seeing it only now.) As for what I've understood, it is basically a scheme having BC2 as its model (which means the most advanced general classification system today), but with an expressive notation suitable for searching in a digital environment, which BC2 lacks. Anyway, no doubt I will examine the structure in more detail :-) What is especially remarkable, at a first look, is that eventually we have a faceted scheme fully searchable and displayable on the Net, with an excellent interface. I hope this will also work as a way to show more concretely what a full-fledged faceted classification scheme can be. Which are the coming steps planned for the system? (well, apart from your PhD: best whishes for it!) ---------- Thanks for playing. ------------------------ Yahoo!
