Sorry, I don't have any statistics, but maybe you can do a sample of one
of their uses showing both of serif and sans serif and use that to
demonstrate your point.

Tis is *exactly* the point we have been tryng to make to the client.
They are paying us for our advice, skill and expertise to make these
decisions. We are providing brand guidelines and document templates to
specify the correct size for each implementation of the typeface.

However their 'report' is being waved at us as a blanket refusal to
consider serif in this case!

I would quite like to wave something back at them :)
