Job: Faculty openings at Univ. of Illinois at U-C

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign is looking for new faculty members at all levels in the
area of Databases and Information Systems (DAIS).  We have an excellent
research group with strong students, good mentoring for junior faculty and
unlimited opportunities for large-scale and interdisciplinary initiatives
by senior faculty.

Our department has approximately 50 faculty members, 800 undergraduate
majors, and 400 graduate students.  We are part of the College of
Engineering, which is consistently ranked as one of the top two or three
engineering colleges in the nation; this makes interdisciplinary research
particularly enticing here.  We have a very strong computational science
program in the college, and our department has close ties to the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications here on campus.  The Beckman
Institute nearby offers an opportunity to collaborate with scientists and
engineers interested in various aspects of cognitive science.  The UIUC
College of Library Science is ranked #1, with many faculty members working
on DAIS-area research.  The Illinois Trust Institute brings together
security researchers from across campus, and is the base for five very
large security research projects.  Several campus-wide bioinformatics
initiatives have attracted participation from our group mem!
 bers as well.

top-k queries), Jiawei Han (data mining), Marianne Winslett (information
security and scientific data management), Cheng Zhai (IR), and YuanYuan

Champaign-Urbana is a town of 100,000 residents, with the shortest average
commute time of any of the US's metropolitan areas (10 minutes), clean air
and water, very nice housing, a low cost of living, and good air
connections. It's a great place for kids to grow up.
