One of the interesting aspects of Peirce's information theory is that
he seems to have derived it from logical or semiotic principles alone,
only later developing a quantitative measure, that is, a mapping into
the real numbers, and it always seemed clear that this mapping itself
made for a loss of information about the qualitative state of affairs
that was being measured.
