MP4's Pros and Cons

With all this talk of the iPod now supporting MP4s, I was wondering what
the advantages were to them. Do they have better sound quality for
equivalent bit rates? (and hopefully as a result, equal sound at lower
bit rates) I have all my music archived to Monkey's Audio, so it's easy
to switch back and forth between MP3s for my desktop speakers and iPod,
however, if the gains aren't that great, I'm not sure if it's worth
bothering with.

I have my APE files for real listening, however, if by moving to MP4 I
could put an extra 20% more songs on my iPod, it might be worth setting
up a batch convert. (I have a 5g iPod, and a few more songs would be
really cool. for a 5% benefit, the effort is probably not worth it.)

Are there any good sites with relatively concise information? I've
looked through a number of sites, but most of the time, I'm forced to
read through tons of posts on forums, most of which have very little
real content.

Todd, thanks for the simple instructions on MP4 creation.
