How do I bypass the "Do not disconnect" display?

When I used to be able to transfer songs from Ephpod to my iPod (now I can't for soem reason - see my previous question), I never understood how to make my iPod stop saying "Do not disconnect". I just removed the iPod from the cradle anyway, and the songs had been transferred okay.
