So this means there are two issues:
Firstly, it failed to heed my settings.xml file in the default location
which defines my repository as elsewhere and secondly, when confronted with
an empty repository it was unable to build; which of course should not be a
problem.
As my project is pretty complex with multiple child layers, I've run a
simple check to ensure it is not my project at fault. I renamed my
repository (to effectively empty it) and did a clean and build in the older
dev version of Netbeans I'm using. Mevenide happily rebuilt my repository
and compiled my project structure.
cheers
