IIRC, they have a stake in the iPlanet app server, and of course they charge
for certification (a lot, apparently), JCP membership, etc.

I saw somewhere else (it may have been the original OnJava article) that
Sun's concern was that amyone could come along and change the source of
JBoss rendering it's certification meaningless - however, the comeback to
this is that it's fairly obvious to all but the most PHB that certification
would only apply to an official distro.
