the projects may be Open Source but what's the point if they are not
supported? You're referring to a "community", but I still have to see the
sign of one around DODS. Or maybe I haven't looked at the the right place.
In that case, please redirect me into the right direction.

I know that "if you're not happy with an OSS project, contribute!" The
problem (for me) is that I already have contributed and that my contributions
have so far remained ignored. Certainly for good reasons, but since noone
pointed them out, I can't fix them either.

I would understand if I had sent a vague enhancement request but the fact is
that I sent a patch to fix bugs! So if these patches for bugs are not
applied, what else would?

</rant>

I have looked at DODS code and I think that "some" improvements could be done
to make it better (I still don't know why you have to set DODS_HOME to use
it. I know that you have to, but it doesn't make sense to me: You don't set
LOG_4J_HOME to use log4J, so why setting DODS_HOME?).

BTW I started to fix this problem but since noone will ever commit my patches
(as of now), why should I care and share my modifications?

Hopefully this situation will be fixed soon.

Best regards,

-Vladimir
