Well, I spoke too soon.

Here are sample numbers that I'm seeing (milliseconds)

*** BEFORE CREATE WORKFLOW PROCESS 1124223
373 105
*** AFTER CREATE WORKFLOW PROCESS 1124223
381 116
*** AFTER create context map BEFORE set_process_context 1124223
381 397
*** AFTER set_process_context BEFORE START 1124223
395 066
*** AFTER start BEFORE disconnect 1124223
400 564
*** AFTER disconnect 1124223
400 674

Its only taking 5 to 9 seconds to create the process. The bulk of the
time (in this case it was 14 seconds) seems to be taken up by the
set_process_context call on the new process. This seems to make no
sense. Any suggestions.

Hi Greg,

This does seem to be a bit long, fpr me to start my processes etc. takes
< 5 seconds (This is for the MVC To connect to the sharkserver over the
wire, for Shark Server to slam a few variables on the process context,
start the process, run the first few activities till it hits a manual
start, and return the manual start activity back to the MVC).

I Had a problem where this was taking up to 120seconds to do, and we
traced it down to a network issue of the network cards being forced to
100Mb, when we set it to Auto-Detect, the performace improved
substancially.

Just a bit of background info for you.

Personnally I Think that's a bit long, however, what are the 5
activities doing?? (They are not perhaps lingering on some time).

PS: If you are running anything over the network, check your
connectivity. ( The network stuff took us about a week to figure out )

Subject: [shark] Time to create a new process instance

I'm running Shark 1.1 using a Oracle 8i (I've also tried 9i) for a
database. Its taking approximately 30 seconds to create a new process
and return using the workflowConnection.createProcess(package_id,
process_id); method.

Our process is fairly simple and only have five activities. We're
setting about 10 process context variables. Is this typical for most
other people's experiences? That seems like an awful lot of time to
create a process? I haven't done any database tuning since running the
Shark configure when we setup the database.

Any feedback on your experience would be appreciated.

Greg
