yep, in the sense that it embeds one, not in the sense that it runs 
inside one.

the eob archive format includes support for embedded wars, just as ear 
does....part of the
"an alternative" idea ;)

The actual *use* of the servlet environment provided is not required at 
all of course, and you
can configure jetty to basically not serve anything (perhaps telling it 
to serve on a firewalled
port). A little more work would be to provide a "no-op" servlet engine 
to EOB which would
just ignore the wars EOB asks it to manage.

Yet a little more work (and on my todo; but I chronically have too much 
on my todo) is to
seperate out the servlet support even further and making it possible to 
disable it in the config
file.
