In my opinion, what would be a very big step for making Jikes RVM more attractive is to complete the migration to Open JDK class library. In particular, for that to happen on Mac OS X, it may be required to add support for JDK 1.7, both in build process and the class library interface implementation in Jikes RVM. Perhaps, such a project is too difficult for GSoC.
