I've tried out MarkSweep but the error still occurs. The error even
occurs with NoGC builds so it is probably not related to the garbage
collectors.

Unfortunately, I've already tried that and it does not help.

Could you give me more detailed suggestions? I've never needed to use
gdb so I'm not sure which gdb features could come in handy in debugging
the problem. Just running the Jikes RVM under gdb without using any gdb
features shows nothing out of ordinary.
