I have similar problems when editing an open issue using the Eclipse EE version. I didn't have this problem until I upgraded to Indigo and Java EE but when I tried it again in Helios using my upgraded Java EE (all 32-bit on my 64-bit platform), Eclipse still crashes. I looked in the log and found absolutely nothing to be able to report back. Just to be sure everything would install properly, before installing Indigo, I uninstalled all my Java stuff, installed the SDK then installed the JRE. Will try uninstalling the SDK and JRE then re-installing just the JRE just to see if that makes a difference. These crashes are frequent enough that it's dramatically impacting my work and it's never happened in any other part of Eclipse except while editing open Jira issues - specifically while editing my comments and often when I'm not typing anything at all.
