Let me just say upfront that this is an inconvenience rather than a problem.
I should have made that clear in my first mail.

Since I always have 20-30 windows up (using a virtual desktop manager), it
has been a while since I have killed everything else to start JSwat first.
But if I remember correctly, there are no behavioral problems if it is
started first. Yes, I can hear it: "Then why don't you do that?" Well, I do.
But once in a while the underlying Linux box has problems and JSwat must be
terminated. To then have it running as the first Xapp would require killing
a bunch of other applications and there's the minor annoyance: you know,
when you're logged in everywhere and you have all your windows set just the
way you like?

Of all the other X applications I have tried (listed in my first post), none
exhibit the same behavior as JSwat, which lead me to think it may not be as
simple as reconfiguring my X server.

Does it happen for other Java apps? That's an excellent question and
something I had not thought of. I don't think I'm using any at this time,
but I'll try one. My JDK being up to date, that should shed some light on
the problem.

Thanks for your suggestions,
JP
