I am the owner of the JackNet project and I have spent the past year developing
an open J2SE-based Embedded Java system that is capable of running the full
JXTA reference implementation:

Current estimates put us just a few months away from having alpha versions of
these systems available and, with any luck, I will be bringing one to JavaOne
:-)

The initial systems will be based upon the 17cm square Mini-ITX boards and the
second generation systems will be based upon the 12cm square Nano-ITX boards.

VIA has also announced a PC-on-a-chip product which will include a complete
1Ghz+ PC on a single chip.  When these are released the third-generation JDOS
systems will be based on this technology.


A year ago when I chose the strategy of pursuing a J2SE based JXTA embedded
system it was a fairly risky decision but during the past 3 months I have
become increasingly more confident that it was a good strategy to take :-)
