MulticastSocket work like a real multicast?

I was under the impression that a multicastsocket in jxta was group based,
not subnet based like a regular multicastsocket.  When testing my code over
two networks, they do not see eachother.  So I am now thinking I was wrong.
Can anyone verify this one for me?
