----------------------------------------------------------------------- NetBeans Weekly News, a newsletter for the NetBeans community Issue #8 - March 26, 2001 URL: http://www.netbeans.org/newsletter/2001-03-26.html Interested in becoming a newsletter editor? We're always looking for editors to help out - contact [email protected]. Please send news contributions to [email protected]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to issue #8 of the NetBeans Weekly News. Administrivia: currently the newsletter is cross-posted to all top level mailing lists, namely nbannounce, nbusers, nbdev and nbui. It means people who subscribe to all these mailing lists get four copies of the newsletter. There is a suggestion to post the newsletter only to nbannounce. If you want the newsletter to be delivered to your mailbox each Monday and don't want to subscribe to nbannounce, please let us know (mailto:[email protected]). Otherwise make sure you are subscribed to nbannounce. We may stop cross posting starting from next week. We are in the middle of the beta phase of NetBeans IDE 3.2 release. Please keep testing, reporting and fixing bugs. Nominate your candidates for hot bugs which should be fixed in 3.2. See NetBeans QA website "NetBeans 3.2 Beta Bug Parade" URL: http://qa.netbeans.org/release32/netbeans32_bugs.html We are intensively tracking performance issues in NetBeans. Petr Nejedly posted some interesting findings regarding uses of Exceptions Subject: Performance - exceptions URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg05011.html By default all IDE's jar files (in 3.2 there are cca 70 of them) are put in classpath for compilation, debugging and execution. Some people think this is evil and should be corrected. See thread Subject: IDE Class Loader vs. My Application Class loader URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg04898.html There is a long thread about writable JarFileSystem on nbdev, worth reading Subject: Writeable JarFileSystem URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg04929.html Source editor in NB 3.2 has several new cool features: fast open, fast import, keyboard macros Subject: [editor] New features in the editor module in release 3.2 URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg05204.html Yarda is proposing an addition in the autoupdate module, which would give the user a convenient way to download third-party libraries which for some reason we don't want or cannot bundle with NBM files Subject: Enhance Autoupdate (was: [nbdev] IBM Public License) URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg04924.html New version of xtest framework is available. Feedbacks are very much welcomed Subject: XTest iteration II available URL: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg04971.html Bug statistics Open bugs P1: 12 ( +5) P2: 35 (-13) P3: 187 (-10) P4: 243 ( +3) P5: 81 ( +3) ----------------- Total: 558 (-12) Last week changes: NEW : 154 FIXED : 138 RESOLVED : 184 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This issue of NetBeans Weekly News was brought to you by Trung Duc Tran.
