------------------------------------------------------------------------ NetBeans Weekly News, a newsletter for the NetBeans community Issue #18 - June 4, 2001 URL: http://www.netbeans.org/newsletter/2001-06-04.html Interested in becoming a newsletter editor? We're always looking for editors to help out - contact [email protected] Please send news contributions to [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes, there is JavaOne again. When you are there make sure to attend at least some of NetBeans related sessions, and there are quite a few of them! The complete list can be found at <http://www.netbeans.org/javaone.html> There is also a booth representing Sun-sponsored open source projects, NetBeans included. At the last minute we managed to secure a room for JavaOne attendees interested in NetBeans to meet in person and have informal discussions: When: Thursday, June 7th, 1 - 4 PM Where: W Hotel 181 3rd St. SAN FRANCISCO,CA 94103 415/777-5300 For more details see Tim Boudreau's post Subj: NetBeans get together at JavaOne URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbannounce/msg00039.html> We are in planning/designing phase of NetBeans release 3.3. Many discussions about new features, possible enhancements are going on. If you want to influence the future of NetBeans IDE, or just want to make sure your favorite small request for enhancement will get implemented in the 3.3 release, this is the right time to speak up on {nbdev,nbui}@netbeans.org. Among other things being discussed right now Subj: Classpath in NetBeans 3.3 URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07193.html> Subj: Component Palette UI in NetBeans 3.3 URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07157.html> Subj: [nbui] drag and drop in window system, second try URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02073.html> Subj: Editor toolbar proposal URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02083.html> BTW, there is a page on the website dedicated to the 3.3 release, bookmark it and go back often!! <http://www.netbeans.org/release33/> Developers should not forget to commit all 3.2 bug fixes into the CVS trunk if they are appropriate. There is a page updated regularly at <http://www.netbeans.org/release33/bugs-32-to-dev.html> which lists all suspicious bug fixes Subj: are all bug fixes from release32 in trunk? URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07213.html> We decided that the general policy for NetBeans is to support the latest JDK major version and the one prior to that. This means we will drop support for JDK 1.2 in the next 3.3 release. Developers are now free to rely on features which are available only in JDK 1.3 and later. Subj: Drop support for JDK 1.2 in NB 3.3, should we? URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07191.html> Subj: FINAL CALL: Drop support for JDK 1.2 in NB 3.3, should we? URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07373.html> The error manager in core (NbErrorManager) should be minimalist, a more fancy implementation could be provided in the form of a module. See thread Subj: Logger module is stable URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07317.html> There is news about an interesting module, a class file viewer, whose functionalities would likely be integrated into an existing clazz module. Subj: New Netbeans module: class file viewer URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08059.html> Subj: [nbdev] sourceless classes & class file viewer URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07382.html> There is one more way for users to speak up their opinions: the IssueZilla voting feature has been turned on. Any one can vote for the bugs/RFEs which s/he wants to be fixed/implemented first. Subj: IssueZilla: Voting is ON!
