However, this is the function of the governance board: "The Board has the high-level duty to ensure that the netbeans.org project is run in a fair and open manner. The Board exists as a last resort to resolve disputes and grievances." (See http://netbeans.org/about/os/governance.html.) In other words, being on the governance board means being (1) an arbitrator and (2) in extreme circumstances only -- almost never will the board play a role at all. It only comes into action when there are disputes. And I have no problem with that, I think that's fine. The board plays an important role. It is the same thing as a judge in a court -- for most people, that's not a place where one spends a lot of time. I'd rather focus on places where people DO spend a lot of time -- e.g., on Twitter, blogs, NetBeans Zone -- writing tips & tricks and articles containing code that people can use. Again, I think the governance board is important, but I also think that slightly too much stress is being placed on it. The real place of action should, at least in my opinion, be in the places where most influence can be brought to bear -- so I'm going to continue focusing on that, more than on anything else. Gj
