Indeed…I totally think that is the case. I think when you have a system like OpenOffice, and what it was/is competing against in the market, and it is open source, and your governance model won’t allow other contributors to come in and do as much as you, or you try to hold onto the reigns to tightly, or because you don’t have the resources to absorb changes, then you inevitably invite forks or other forms of competition, and if the fork has a better governance and acceptance model, IMO, it is more likely to win out if you have people or corporations trying to contribute. I think this is a good thing for NB to make this move considering OpenOffice versus thinking of it as a reason not to do it.
