Certainly.

Yes. Though that will be determined by Apache NetBeans and since a key 
reason for the existence of Apache NetBeans will be to support Java, it 
will be unavoidable that Java 9 will need to be supported. A subset of 
the long list of Oracle developers listed in the proposal are 
specifically there to work on NetBeans 9.

Yup, for sure.

There's also heaps of other benefits -- openness and transparency 
creates trust in software and that's what Apache is all about.
