--0016363ba2ce01fd3b04af29f663 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Hi all, hi Paul... Most of us had spent years in the translation project to make it available even for people who don't speak english that well. What's happening now is just... uhm how to say that... painful, as it is a deep stroke into out hearts. There were complaints when Oracle took over Sun, that Oracle doesn't really like communities and their work for community projects, but it was also said, Oracle has no problems using the results of such projects without ever paying something back. I've always hoped this might change (at least a little bit), but today I think, Oracle is just afraid of communities. We (as translation community) do not really need that much, but even this handful of requirements is not provided to us: - Clear communication of *what* happens *when* and *why* (e.g. release dates and procedures) - prompt answers (no, a delay of 5 days isn't prompt) - support on tools - just decommisioning a tool without an alternative is the same as no support at all - a pen or shirt from time to time That's all a pitty and might not help nobody. :( So, after a long fight with myself, I've decided to leave the german translation team (which was - afaik - me only at the end). Thanks to all those you've helped and supported us all over the years, who took pride in working with a vibrant community, who made it possible to provide translations to all the non-native speakers out there. And some special thanks goes to: Ruth K., Masaki. K and Janice C. Bye J..e P.S.: this e-mail thread has still answers pending... It's not the best practice to delay answers or to sit 'em out.
