Hello all, cc'ing webteam@ and Tim who helped with this. After fiddling around a bit, it seems that jpg is actually the best format in this case (unless we're doing something wrong which is quite possible :-) http://www.netbeans.org/download/temp/core.html - The first gif is the most optimised, but if you look at the top right corner you'll see a deformation of the cube, bad enough to be unacceptable I think; - so far have been unable to get a png with correct palette, bgcolour is wrong as you can see in both examples here; - 8bit gif is fine; - 24bit jpg is also fine, and 40% smaller than the gif; I'm no expert but I assume that since the icon is quite detailed, includes a lot of variation/gradation in shading etc, that jpg simply works best here. Unless anyone strongly disagrees - and can come up with a better option (acceptable quality and filesize) - I'm going to suggest we keep the jpg. I'll give ppl a few days to object and come up with alternatives. Translated files guys : due to the way the module navigation and icon wrappering is set up, the module icon image must be named the same everywhere. Obviously this means that the file *type* must be the same everywhere. If we use "module_icon.jpg" for one module, it must be a jpg everywhere. SO - unless we come up with a better alternative, the translatedfiles jpg that you already have (I think?) is the one you should use - or rather it has to stay a jpg. Comments/feedback welcome. Thanks. -- Jack Catchpoole NetBeans/Sun Microsystems http://www.netbeans.org/
