netbeans.org design changes

Hello all,

As you might have read in recent newsletters, we are planning
some redesign work for the netbeans.org site.  We are mostly
focussing on just a few high-traffic pages - specifically the
index page, the downloads, and possibly (depending on time
constraints) the module catalogue.  The "tab" navigation is
likely to change its look also.

Nothing is finalised yet (by a long way!), but to give you
an idea of some of the initial designs and ideas that have
come up, here are a few samples :

Please realise these are very early designs, it is not
decided that we will use any of these!  The design cycle
is not over, and it is likely we will go through several
more rounds of options before settling on anything.

So, I just wanted to show you all what's happening, and ask
if anyone has any comments or feedback on any of these
options.
