You can put anything into a shutdown hook but it's not really designed for
doing much more than closing resources etc.  I imagine if you take too long,
you risk having things like the garbage collector go away before you are
done.  It's also not a very user-friendly model, to suddenly start doing a
lot of work when the user is trying to quit the application.
